Black Lantern Synergy is very excited to announce the Environmental Advocates of New York have lent their support to the upcoming show in Albany. Receiving community support from a group as long-standing and effective as this at engaging the environmental conundrum is an honor for us. A big thank you to the Environmental Law Society at Albany Law School for facilitating this partnership.
For more than 40 years, the Environmental Advocates of New York have acted as a citizen watchdog on environmental issues and have contributed to the development of significant environmental protections in New York and beyond. EANY has led the charge on numerous legal reforms to protect New York’s rivers, lakes, air, and natural places. In particular, they helped usher the passage of the State Environmental Quality Review Act, an important corollary to the federal National Environmental Policy Act that mandates review of state government action that may affect the natural world. Perhaps surprisingly, not even Oregon has a law like SEQRA to help protect the beautiful spaces here from state government actions.
Most impressive to us is EANY’s commitment to regional collaboration. The group has been intimately involved with the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative that combines the efforts of ten northeastern states to control emissions and promote the transition to a more sensible energy system. In addition, EANY has been involved with the Great Lakes Compact aimed at protecting the Lakes from overuse and degradation. These broader efforts contribute to a growing recognition that issues affecting the environment require collective and cooperative efforts that extend beyond artificial boundaries.
We commend EANY’s efforts and appreciate their interest in our project. There will be a table at the show where you will have the opportunity to meet with some of their representatives to find out how you can get involved.

Marcy Stengel, Membership Director for the Environmental Advocates of New York, attended the show at Albany Law School and spoke with guests about her organization and their ongoing efforts. It was nice to meet Marcy and to get an introduction to EANY's work.
Marcy had this to say about partnering with BLS:
"For Environmental Advocates, as an advocacy organization, I think it's always important to help to connect the dots between the work we do in the halls of the Capitol and how that plays out in the 'real world'--it helps our members, and people who have never heard of us understand the need for the work we do. We're always happy to partner with groups like BLS that can help make those connections. We're really grateful for the introduction to Professor Keith Hirokawa, and we look forward to building a closer relationship with Albany Law School and the Environmental Law Society."
